February 8th 2015 Dumaguete

Sign on the Dumaguete boardwalk.
Dumaguete boardwalk.
This is Harold's Mansion Tourist Inn where I am staying in Dumaguete. 400 pesos ($10 cdn) for a basic room with bathroom and fan. Not a bad place and was recommended in my guide book.
Welcome to East LA. OK it is southern Dumaguete. As I walked south in Dumaguete I came to a bridge and saw the houses on the other side that was definitely the poor neighborhood and kids below swimming in the canal full of garbage.
Just another street in Dumaguete.
After I got to Dumaguete I got into a motorize trike and went to Harolds Mansion Tourist Inn that was recommended in my Lonely Planet Guidebook. The room was decent with hot water and fan so I just booked a night to see how I like it and will probably book a few more days tomorrow. They have a roof top restaurant and I went up and had a club sandwich, garlic rice, and a mango shake which was all very good. The weird thing is that they had urinals about 8 feet away from the tables hidden by a cooler but still out in the open for all to see. Not the best place to put urinals. But hey, I am a guest in this country and should probably keep my opinions to myself.

I headed out to check out Dumaguete and first went to the boardwalk which is a nice strip right along the ocean. I walked around a bit and wanted some milk so tried to find a 7-Eleven store but had no luck and then asked someone who told me that Dumaguete is one of the few towns that does NOT have a 7-Eleven store yet. I will probably spend a few more days here before heading onto Bacolod.
