March 2nd 2015 Roxas City- Day 1

Here is where Roxas (Pronounced "Row-has") is located in the Philippines.

Roxas city is names after Manuel Roxas who became the 5th president of the Philippines after WW2 between 1946-1948. He was born in this town which was originally called Capiz but now named after him because of all his accomplishments.

Found a place that serves dam good Pizza! They have a white chicago pizza that is very good too. 50 pesos ($1.50 cdn) a slice. Very thick! Actually I am going back there after I finish this post since it is right across the street of Le Brew cafe.

Since there is apparently no McDonalds for coffee in Roxas and my hotel has no wireless wi-fi I have come here to fulfill both necessities. The coffee is a tad weak but the wi-fi connection is strong so downloading to the site here.

Lots of motorized tricycles everywhere in Roxas city.

For $8 cdn per day you can own this little place! Everything is in Square meters here but 60 SQM is 645 square feet so basically a 1 bedroom apt.

More advertisements for working in Korea. Seeing all the low paying jobs here I am surprised more of them aren't taking these overseas opportunities.

Nice little neighborhood. It is hard to believe people live here and there are nice new homes right beside these garbage dump neighborhoods.

Nice pink house. Maybe this is how the Roxas City Boulevard Lodge got its start?

Just heading down BANG-BANG street.
Well I have to admit that I really like Roxas City compared to all the other Philippine cities I have been to so far. The downtown area looked nice with palm trees along the roadside and the BAY-BAY Beach (pronounced Bye-Bye beach) which is 3km north was decent too. More pictures to come but my laptop battery is dying.

As I walked around the streets I saw this van drive by slowly and could see 10-15 people crammed inside and I guess I must have smirked at the sight of it as the woman in the back who had the back hatch completely up and open (so everyone could breathe!) started laughing when she saw me smirking at them and then the kids in the van began waving and saying hello to me as they slowly drove down the road.

I wished I came here on Saturday after my visa got extended to I could spend more time here. Tomorrow I will be on my way to Caticlan where I will take the boat from there over to Boracay Island and stay on Boracay for 2 weeks.
