March 18th 2015 Davao city- Day 1- Walking around the outside markets

This stuff is delicious. It is like a cold flavoured drink with bits of jello in it for 10 pesos for a big glass. Very refreshing drink.
These are the 4 flavours available. Purple is my favourite and then the green stuff on the right. She puts some sort of creamy stuff in as well and mixes it. I usually get my 30 pesos worth here at 10 pesos a pop. It quenches the thirst!
Down the hatch!!

That Durian fruit must be a serious STINKER. You see signs like this on different businesses including my hotel.
Sweet Pomelos. Never heard of them or ever seen them before.
I don't know what those two fruits are in the front but those 3 at the back are called JACK FRUIT. See next photos.

I had asked this guy what it was and the woman behind him laughing told me it was called JACK FRUIT. He sees me about to take a picture so goes into a pose and they are laughing.
Some of these JACK FRUITS are VERY BIG!! This one at the front is the size of a big watermelon!
Walking through more of the outside markets before running into those kids in the poorer areas.
Lots of Squid and fresh fish available.

There is a drink I really like (see photos) that I only had once before in iloilo and I see it here just outside my hotel which is a flavoured drink with bits of jello in it. It is very cold and refreshing to drink for only 10 pesos (30 cents) for a big glass of it.

I had come back to the hotel and was going to download my last post but the internet was not working so I headed out again in the opposite direction to see what I would see and after 7 blocks came to an outside market selling all types of fruits and fishes and other types of food. I walked a little too far and came to another of those neighborhoods for very poor people and saw some kids shyly looking at me from a distance and then saw a young girl walking in front of me looking at me curiously with a little smirk on her face so I said "Hi there!" and she said Hi and then all the other 7 kids one at a time said hi and started jumping up and down (once they realized I was friendly) around me really excited and of course I was getting them worked up and even HYPER as I got them all to run up to me and give me HIGH-FIVES and as they jumped up and slapped by hand I would say "HEY!!" every time. Even the filipinos who drove by on their scooters were laughing. I tell ya, I know how to work a crowd! I then say "Good bye" and each one of them waves and says good bye as I head back to the outside markets.

I am always greeted by filipinos as I walk the streets. Some guys are sitting down on the sidewalk and see me and look up with big smiles on their faces and say "Hey man, hows it going?" and stuff like that. It is funny and I sometimes wonder if they have watched too many Hollywood movies and think we are all like that or maybe it is that they don't see foreigners too often, particular a 6'3 270lb white guy with blond hair and blue eyes could be it too. They are definitely pro America as you see them wearing american flag T-Shirts and you always hear 80s rock and roll on the streets and everywhere which is my favourite music too.

I see all the pirated movies on display for cheap but because you can download them for free I can't see why anyone would buy them. I see "Jupiter Ascending" which I just watched a month ago has its pirated version out there already.

As I got back to the hotel I decided to head to a supermarket I saw on my walk back and went in to get some water and other drinks as it gets hot here and the fan in my room barely keeps me cool so I need something to keep me hydrated through the night. As I am standing in line with my drinks behind a woman who is already at the cashier, a guy a few years older or maybe the same age with an armful of groceries walks in front of me and then stops and turns towards the cashier where I am now looking at the back of his head and I can't believe what I think I am seeing. I always give them the benefit of the doubt as I don't want to misinterpret something but said to myself if he even dares putting one of his items down on that counter I will be tearing a verbal strip off of him where he will be LOSING FACE as they say in Asia. I think he felt my energy behind him because he looked back at me and looked into my wide serious eyes which basically said "You are fucken kidding me right??" at which he THEN moves to behind me. UnFriggen believeable!
