Heading into the Tarsier Sanctuary. |
Some facts about the Tarsier. |
Some more information on Tarsiers. |
Here is one of the three I got to see in their natural environment. |
He is definitely not very gentlemanly with the ladies. |
When I first saw a Tarsier with its eyes half closed I immediately saw the similarity of Master Yoda or a Gremlin. |
Carlito Pizzaras is the owner of the Tarsier sanctuary and is an expert on Tarsiers which are only found in the Philippines and mostly on Bohol. He started this sanctuary on 8 hectares and now have 100 Tarsiers who hunt and mate at night and sleep during the day. Apparently they are NOT monkeys but can spin their heads like an owl 360 degrees but can't move their eyes which stay focused looking ahead.
In the morning the guides go out in a small area to FIND the tarsiers as the tarsiers roam free at night and then find a place to sleep so a guide is needed to show you where they are on any particular day.
The Tarsiers are smaller than my clenched fist.
