This was my drive on Bohol island today |
This was taken on the dock in Tubigon. |
In Tubigon. There is the McDonalds where I met 2 guys from Montana that live in Buenavista on Bohol for half of the year. |
Just 6kms east of the town of Corella is the Tarsier sanctuary. I made it out there but realized it was closed due to the Good Friday Holiday. I will be heading there tomorrow. |
Once I got my food and walked to find a seat I saw this big white guy walking past me and he nodded and I said hello and then his friend turned around and asked me where I was from and I told them and they said they live just to the south of me across the US border in Montana. We chatted for about 10 minutes while I held my tray of food and they were in their early 50s and one was married to a 25 year old filipina for the past 5 years and the other guy was separated from his filipina as he told me that she was more married to her family who was constantly asking for more money from him and he had enough of it and said "Never again!!".
They also worked in the oil patch in the Bakken oil reserves of North Dakota. One of them gets unemployment cheques from the US Government even when he is out of the country due to his seasonal work job. They were good guys and I probably could have chatted with them for hours but I was just sitting down and they were just leaving to meet up with some other Amercian Expats that live on Bohol.
Once I filled up the scooter full of gas I went back and took an inland route to Corella and was stopped at a checkpoint in a town before it by some police officers who asked for my drivers licence. I thought they were going to say something about my Canadian drivers licence I gave him as I don't have an international drivers licence and he asked me "How many months have you been in Bohol?". And I told him I just got here yesterday and plan to stay for only a few days and then fly back to Canada.
Got to Corella and made it to the Tarsier sanctuary only to see that it is closed. It says it is open 7 days a week 9am-4pm but obviously closed today because of Good Friday.
Decided to go to Panglao island and didn't realize it was as big as it is. It was getting dark and I started to head back to Tagbilaran and there were huge traffic jams because of people walking with candles throughout the island like a parade to celebrate Good Friday. I got back to Tagbilaran and the same thing with thousands of people walking the streets with candles and took me an extra 40 minutes to find my hotel as roads were blocked and traffic cops directing traffic to take detour routes and it was a real hassle to get back to the hotel.
I will be heading out tomorrow to Corella to see the Tarsiers and then I will explore Panglao island on the scooter.
